As I mentioned in my Rotterdam post, I felt that our tulip adventure warranted it's own post. Especially since there are dozens of photos here, and this is less then half of the ones I took.
One of our days in Rotterdam, we piled in the car and headed to Keukenhof, the massive flower garden park just outside of town. Their website says they have more than seven million tulips, daffodils and hyacinths on more than 32 hectares. They have 800 varieties of tulips. It's only open for 2 months in the spring. These pictures are beautiful but don't even begin to do the experience justice.
First, we walked through the grounds, looking at (and posing in front of!) all of the planted flowers.
Lovebug here wanted her photo taken in front of every patch... so of course we obliged!
Sniff sniff snifffff
Then, we walked through the greenhouse, which was just as amazing. Every patch was different and more beautiful than the last. I said to M at one point, I don't take many pictures of flowers usually, but I can't seem to stop!
Little bit was starting to get a little tired of looking at flowers....so what does daddy buy her? Ice cream of course, she's on holiday!
Next up, it was time for our bike ride! So, we rented our bikes, strapped little bit in, and off we went! Little did we know, D decided to take us on the 26k route....we rode...and rode....and rode.
Looking for the tulips!
Found em! It was unbelievable. A little chilly, but the day was gorgeous.
Look Auntie Lindsey - no hands!!
We found this random cafe along the way that we made a pit stop for - we all needed a cold beer and a snack. And then we got up, and continued on - we even rode to the edge of the North Sea! Another quick pit stop...
As the sea was at the top of a never ending gradual climb.... and then, off again!
Finally (finally!) back at the park, we had to walk all the way back through on our wobby legs. At this point, it was almost closing time, and it was practically empty, which was actually quite nice.
Absolutely one of the very coolest things I've ever done. Of all of our travels, this is definitely top 5 experiences. And, getting to share it with our dear friends made it just that much better!
A bike ride by the tulip fields sounds like a perfect way to enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that was on my bucket list! I wish your post had smell-vision! The scents were as impressive as the colours!
